Crowell’s Fine Art is proud to present this exhibition of paintings by accomplished artist Mark LaRiviere. A graduate of the Swain School of Design (B.F.A. 1979) and Parsons School of Design (M.F.A. 1981) LaRiviere has built an extensive exhibition history.

“Gatherings in Paint” is the artist first solo exhibition in the South Coast.

Artist Statement
These paintings of figures have been with me since my beginnings.  My first stirrings as an artist have been to make convincing people, either singularly or in groups.  As I learned the power of paint, color, space, and all the accoutrements that go with ones attempt to make paintings,  I at times hid the figures behind a vail of texture, form and paint.  But an artist's forms are persistent.  An artist may clothe them in the style of the day, in the manner that is recognizable to others, yet what forms one chooses to paint, or what forms are chosen for the artist by the spirits that guide us will always rise and demand to be seen if the artist works at their craft long enough and diligently.

So here these paintings are, in the incarnation that best suits me as an artist at this time, and that challenges me and my craft with all the diligence I can muster day to day.
